As to AI—and I have to admit straight up I've lifelong been somebody who adores comma conventions, parts of speech, British English versus American English and so on—please know for all of our wondrous advances, spellcheck still cannot handle hyphens. "Proofread" is a closed compound word. No hyphen. This is spelling. (Hyphens have other, funnier roles, like joining two words creatively to make a them function as a different part of speech.) "High school" is an open compound word. "Well-being" is a hyphenated compound word.
Because spellcheck doesn't know what to do with hyphens, and because the world doesn't want to pay slubs like me pennies to go through stuff before it's published (also because English classes stopped really enthusiastically teaching language arts, don't want to say anything's wrong, and moved on to civics remedies), we're seeing more and more crazy hyphens. Start looking. You'll want to pull your hair out.
