“'If we screw up on EVs, I cannot tell you we will still be here in 15 years.' I heard that not from a politician but from the CEO of a large U.S. auto company."
Try making Tommy Tuberville understand this, not because he matters much, but because figuring out a way to pound it through his thick skull will make it a lot easier to make other "leaders" understand it.
Right on Mike! Having sold automation equipment for 50 years I can testify that legions of suppliers will also benefit from this type of manufacturing.
Of course EV’s will reduce the rate of global warming, already toasting our forests in the west.
Thanks for doing this Mike - even if you are a Republican, I 'preciate you. I LOVELOVELOVE my hybrid EV and it is so simple. We invested in solar, yes we're in Calif. but I go to the gas station once every 3 months because I have to drive some goofball to the airport, and it is further away than my silly hybrid has range for. But we are all in on 100% EV for the next vehicle. I drive to work and errands daily on my 30 miles charge. Then charge it up again. Painless!
I’m a retired Michigan attorney who has been involved in political campaigns and just sent you some money. But where are the Big 3 and their advertising muscle ? Where’s Jim Farley with his ads? I thought he was an EV enthusiast? Are they going to continue to allow Trump to attack the green new deal and tell his stories of electric trucks breaking down bridges and electric boats exposing him to sharks as the heavy battery laden boat sinks?
I’ll stay optimistic. BTW, I have you at the top of my political analysis over Carville and Axe. Best of luck on this adventure. Been promoting solar electric since 1978’s Sun Day when I interned with Solar Action lead by Dennis Hayes
Jim Farley is clearly on the same page-WSJ piece this AM shines a light on Detroits fears….what’s so bad about creating more American manufacturing jobs….in America!
Great article Mike. Very good rationale that hopefully can start to crack the traditional angst of any change. Jobs are jobs, and your example of the power of our manufacturing know how & capacity is spot on. All to often, historians mentioning how we were the Arsenal of Democracy, doesn’t register sufficiently. Even before you started your EV push, I’ve been a fan. Tell me though, what’s happening on speeding up EV Chargers infrastructure. I’m happy to see many large convenience store chains start to add chargers, and other frequented locations. But to me they’re just a drop in the bucket. Seems to me we have a long way to go to really be on track to meet the demand that’s just around the corner.

Thanks Mike! A devoted listener.

Hi David. Thank you for your donation. Stay tuned. I think Ford totally gets it. Best.

See this Noah smith piece on why EVs will win out in the end, 10/20/24, https://open.substack.com/pub/noahpinion/p/evs-are-just-going-to-win?r=dc61o&utm_medium=ios
Great article. The EV politics podcast #1 was quite good as well.
